Hello everyone!
I was keenly following the 2015 UK General Election earlier this week and it was a pretty interesting affair. The Conservative party won it and PM David Cameron returns to No.10 Downing Street for a second term. I was paying special attention to Ceredigion and the seat went to the Lib Dems. Also, MP Mhairi Black became the youngest British lawmaker since 1667 (she’s 20 years old!). Anyway,I only have two ‘hopes’ for the new government: (1) Work towards a one United Kingdom, with England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland all being a part of the country (2) United Kingdom continuing to be in the European Union. (3) Have a proper and fair immigration policy in place (it won’t come as a surprise that I’m not a fan of UKIP).
Next up, I started reading two books yesterday. First is Andrea Pirlo’s autobiography titled ‘I Think Therefore I play’. Pirlo is one of my favourite Italian footballers (he won the FIFA World Cup in 2006) and it’s great to read what the Maestro has penned down. Second is my 1st travel literature book – ‘Brazil’ by Michael Palin. I have developed an association with Brazil and i’m looking forward to learn about the Brazilian way of life. Football, samba, carnivale, capoeira, Paulo Coelho, Amazon rainforests, Rio, the B in BRIC, this is gonna be quite some ride!
Okay, time for a throwback on WordPress. I love the World Heritage Sites and turns out my first WHS is the Tower of London (I visited it in 1999 with my family – I remember the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom most vividly, especially the Imperial State Crown). In my home country Malaysia, I have only covered the Malacca portion of the Malacca-Penang World Heritage Site. I need to plan a holiday to Penang soon so that I can add another site to my WHS list.
I’ll wrap up this week’s blog with the following two highlights for the day.
- I attended my friend’s (Malay) wedding reception in the afternoon. He’s a good-looking bloke, his wife is definitely cute, and they’re an Arsenal couple. One of the perks of living in Malaysia is experiencing a multitude of cultures and I have to say, I enjoy going to these Malay weddings!
- Liverpool drew with Chelsea tonight, thus it can be said that Manchester United have achieved our minimum goal of finishing in the top 4. I still wish we hadn’t scuffed our FA Cup run though – the last time we won the trophy was back in 2004! That’s way too long!
Righto then, see you in my next blog!
