I had a staff review session with my line manager this week and we discussed my pending transfer to the UK shift team. Not surprisingly, I was in two minds as to whether I should go through with it or stick my current team. The reason? My work mates, as they’re a really cool bunch of people and I’m bound to miss them if I switch to UK time. Well, I had a think about it and I recalled what my cousin (he’s younger than me) told me: ‘You’ve gotta give up the good to be great’. Well, that definitely struck a chord with me and I’m now absolutely positive about my UK time decision. Fun is good, but greatness is better. I am a hedonist, I love having a good time, but if I wanna do something really special, I have to do what is needed in respect of my craft. So yeah, thanks boy for the words of wisdom!
- Friday night – I really like driving alone to Bukit Jalil & back, with radio music accompanying me on my night drive. In between, I had dinner with my apartment boys at Gandhi’s Vegetarian Restaurant in Brickfields. On the way back, I sang along to Celine Dion’s “That’s the Way It is”.
- Friend’s wedding reception – I love attending these functions when they’re held in grand settings – big halls, beautiful lighting, you get the picture. I went for one yesterday and my highlight was talking with my East Malaysian dancer girl friend. She looked very stylish that night and I am so looking forward to hanging out with her on our upcoming food review sessions.
- Hunger Games – It’s been some time since I last watched a movie at the cinema. Anyway, I updated my Hunger Games movies oon Saturday night, watching ‘Catching Fire’ & ‘Mockingjay: Part 1’ in the early hours of the morning (btw, it’s the first time I’m watching the 2 movies). Now to complete the series in the coming week or two!
- Androgynous art – Right, I think I have a penchant for queer androgynous art. I got to know about Frida Kahlo (Fulang-Chang and I and Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair) this week and Glyn Philpot’s Oedipus certainly does catch my eye.
I hope I make a proper effort in going after my dreams. I love enjoying life and the young urban working adult lifestyle definitely tempts me but I want to have a career that I can be proud of. That’s not the case at the moment so yeah, it’s very much a ‘work-in progress’.
Fun is good. Greatness is better.
